Mr Song points to a wedding gown hanging on a rack inside his Fresh Cleaners in Cameron Park. Then he holds the sleeve up to his nose and smiles.
“No Odor,” he says.
Song added that Fresh Cleaners, located in the Food 4 Less Shopping Center at Cameron Park next to Apple Bee Restaurant, is the first dry cleaning establishment in Cameron Park to use the environmentally friendly GreenEarth system.
“Our garments are being cleaned using this revolutionary system at no additional charge to our customers,” Song said. “The GreenEarth system is environmentally friendly and will not pollute our water, soil or air. It is also gentle on fabrics and extend garment life.”
Song pointed out that environmental concerns are very important. During the days of the old harsh chemical system there was usually a lingering chemical odor on dry cleaning. “But no more.”
Song is proud of the new GreenEarth cleaning machine, costing $70,000, which is $20,000 more than a conventional machine. “It is quality manufactured in Italy,” he stated, “and is state-of-the-art, even computerized.”
The old dry cleaning system used perchloroethylene(perc), but Song says that has been made obsolete with the new environmentally friendly GreenEarth system for some older models. In Southern California officials recently voted to phase out the old system and newly installed cleaning machine will use “non-perc” technology.
Song said the new environmentally friendly process is a combined effort of GreenEarth Cleaning, General Electric and Proctor and Gamble, adding that G.E. Silicone provides the chemical and Proctor and Gamble the soap.
Fresh Cleaner is equipped with more than $300,000 in dry cleaning system, washers, dryers, irons, steamers and press machines.
Song said all work is done on the premises at Fresh Cleaners. The firm has six employees and specializes in alteration, leather and suede, wedding gowns and draperies. Also featured is a shirt laundry. Fresh Cleaners operates 13 other outlets in Northern California. For more information call 530-676-1212
